History

From Kiel to Drammen.

The hardware platform has its roots in German automation. The engineering, the software and the service organisation are in Drammen.

1970s
Stein Sohn in Kiel, with maritime roots back to the 1880s, starts developing its own automation system.
1984
The first microcontroller-based exhaust gas monitoring system – then the Camos and Vista generations.
2002
Marine Control Services is founded in Drammen as strategic partner for the Scandinavian, and especially Norwegian, shipbuilding market.
2003
First Vista Automation deliveries, with MCS’s own engineering, service and commissioning.
2010
MCS co-founds Rockson Automation and introduces Evolution V5, the fifth generation.
2016
Achilles JQS qualified.
2025
Evolution IAS chosen for Greenpeace International’s new flagship, and nine new purser/trawlers at Karstensens Skibsværft.
2026
Contract for Frøy’s new wellboat – the first wellboat to carry DNV Cyber Secure (+).
